The purpose of the Tirana event, which pooled representatives of the countries-signatories to the charter -- Albania, Croatia and Macedonia -- is to assess results which those countries have achieved so far on the road towards NATO membership, the Albanian media reported on Monday.
Present at the conference are US Deputy Secretary of State Kathy Stevens, NATO's Assistant Secretary General, Guenter Alenburg, Croatia's Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polancec, Foreign Ministry State Secretary Hidajet Biscevic, Croatian Ambassador to the United States Neven Jurica and the Croatian national co-ordinator for NATO, Pjer Simunovic, as well as delegations from Macedonia and Albania.
Officials from Serbia-Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina were also invited to attend the conference as future signatories to the charter.
Signatories to the charter promote regional cooperation and assist each other in efforts to meet criteria necessary for their admission to NATO.
