The assembly was attended by Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks and War Veterans Minister Jadranka Kosor, who called on volunteers and veterans to continue to cooperate with the government so that better solutions could be found to existing problems.
Seks said that "all those trying to downplay the significance of the Homeland War won't succeed". He announced the 10th anniversaries of Flash and Storm, the operations which liberated occupied parts of Croatia in 1995, would be marked in Okucani, Pakrac, and Brod on May 1, and in Knin on August 1. He said the commemorations would be attended by top state officials, representatives of the armed forces, as well as the commanders and units which had taken part in the operations.
Seks underlined the importance of promoting the truth about the Homeland War, saying "there are synchronised attempts in (neighbouring countries) to devaluate the Homeland War".
Retired General Miljenko Crnjac complained about the lack of a correct list of volunteers and those who led troops and organised the defence during the war.
He condemned some media articles devaluating war veterans, saying the government and parliament had the obligation to react to untrue and tendentious articles.
