ZAGREB, April 22 (Hina) - Some 60 mine-clearing workers of the
state-run Mungos company on Friday afternoon discontinued picketing a
government building in St Mark's square in Zagreb after their union
representatives reached an agreement with government officials. The
dissatisfied workers began their protest rally on Thursday. On
Friday morning, Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polancec, who met the union
representatives, said the government would ensure a 20-million kuna job for
Mungos mine-clearing specialists by 30 June and secure funds for the payment of
overdue salaries.
They also agreed on a draft law on humanitarian de-mining and said that
in the next month the two sides would agree the text of a national programme
for the removal of mines from 2005 to 2009.
