In the early hours of May 1, 1995, Croatian forces launched a speedy operation in western Slavonia, and liberated about 500 square metres during the action which lasted 31 hours. As a result of this operation, Croatia regained control over the entire Zagreb-Lipovac highway. About 7,200 Croatian soldiers and police were engaged in the operation during which about 42 of them were killed and over 162 were wounded.
