Suker informed Regling about economic trends in Croatia and the reduction of the fiscal deficit in 2004, and highlighted the efforts by the Croatian Ministry of Finance to further cut the deficit and continue reducing the foreign debt, the Ministry of Finance said in a press release.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of the European Commission's Delegation in Washington. Suker was leading a Finance Ministry delegation to the spring session of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
The talks also focused on structural reform in Croatia and technical assistance Croatia was receiving from European countries.
According to the press release, Regling said that the European Commission would be pleased to help Croatia as a future member of the European Union, and that Croatia's pre-accession economic programme was a good framework for structural reform and the government's economic policy.
The European Commission is analysing the Croatian pre-accession economic programme and will present its opinion to Croatia in two months.
