ZAGREB/HELSINKI, April 7 (Hina) - Justice ministers from 46 Council ofEurope member states, including Croatian Justice Minister Vesna SkareOzbolt, gathered in the Finnish capital Helsinki on Thursday for theopening session of a
two-day conference on the social aspects ofcriminal law.

Council of Europe member states, including Croatian Justice Minister Vesna
Skare Ozbolt, gathered in the Finnish capital Helsinki on Thursday for the
opening session of a two-day conference on the social aspects of criminal
law. Skare Ozbolt is due to sign the Council of Europe convention on
compensation to victims of violent crimes, which will then be ratified by the
Croatian Parliament, the Croatian Justice Ministry said in a press release.
In his opening remarks, EU Justice Commissioner Franco Frattini called
for international cooperation in the fight against terrorism and said that
there was no contradiction between providing people with more security and
respecting fundamental human rights.
