The Dutch Embassy in Sarajevo has informed the ICMP that before events marking the 10th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre the Dutch government wanted to facilitate the identification of the largest possible number of some 8,000 victims of the massacre committed by Bosnian Serb forces under the command of Ratko Mladic.
By helping shed light on the fate of missing persons, we can help the entire society solve extremely painful issues from the past and eventually turn to the future, reads a statement signed by Dutch Ambassador Robert Bosscher.
The ICMP, which is searching for persons who went missing on the territory of the former Yugoslavia, has information on 25,328 missing persons from the entire region. Of that number, 20,696 are from Bosnia-Herzegovina. The ICMP has so far analysed the remains of 11,259 people and established the identity of 5,688 people.
