The aim of this EUR 230,000 project is to strengthen a reliable and transparent public procurement system in accordance with EU standards.
The partner in the nine-month project's implementation is the Austrian federal public procurement agency.
The Austrian Ambassador in Zagreb, Jan Kickert, said that this was a small project in terms of allocated funds, but a great project in terms of its possible effects and scope.
He said that managers of big Austrian companies had told him that they would not take part in tenders in Croatia until the country established a public procurement system in compliance with European standards.
Croatian Economy Ministry State Secretary Robert Markt said that Croatia had closed the negotiating area on public procurement within its EU accession negotiations and that it was planning to additionally enhance this sector.
