PRISTINA, Nov 8 (Hina) - Albania's greatest living writer and
Nobel prize nominee, Ismail Kadare, said during a visit to Pristina on
Wednesday that the people of Kosovo were ready for independence from Serbia and
that Kosovo's independence was imminent. "The Albanian people is a
European people and this fact cannot be denied," Kadare said, adding that
Albanian Muslims were equally European as were European Christians.
Kadare, who lives in France and occasionally visits Albania, said after
meeting Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu that citizens of Albania were always in
their thoughts with Kosovo and its citizens.
Sejdiu thanked Kadare for his contribution to efforts to settle the
Kosovo issue and for promoting Albanian culture.
