LJUBLJANA, Nov 2 (Hina) - The Slovene Interior Ministry has stated that Slovenia, together with Italy and Hungary, is seeking a solution to allow Croatians to enter the said countries with identity cards as they have done so far.

The Slovene ministry issued a statement on Thursday in response to news that the European Commission has recommended that Slovenia rescind this possibility for Croatian citizens, as their entering Slovenia with IDs is allegedly contrary to the Schengen Border Act which took effect in Slovenia last month.

"Together with Italy and Hungary, which have similar agreements with Croatia regulating border-passing with identity cards, we are looking for a joint solution which would continue providing Croatians with the possibility of passing the border with identity cards," the Slovene ministry said in the statement.

According to the press release, Slovenia has not been officially notified that its agreement with Croatia regulating the border-crossing regime is not in compliance with the European Union's acquis communautaire and that it is not in line with the Schengen Border Act.

Last Saturday, speaking on condition of anonymity, a source from the European Commission told the Slovene News Agency (STA), that the Croatian-Slovene agreement was contrary to the Schengen Border Act.

The STA added that the same source had said that Slovenia must revoke the bilateral agreement with Croatia which allowed Croatians to pass the Slovene border with IDs.
