ZAGREB, Oct 16 (Hina) - Parliamentarians from European Union and
Southeast European countries on Monday called on governments and all
international institutions responsible for the management and democratic
supervision of the security sector to elaborate programmes that would enable
creation of a legislative framework, transparent funding and the effective work
of security services and judiciaries in the countries of Southeast Europe. The appeal was made in final declarations adopted at two seminars that
were held in Zagreb on the subjects of judicial reform and the parliamentary
supervision of security services in Southeast Europe.
Participants called on the international community to ensure a more
effective and targeted use of financial assistance, particularly EU funds, in
promoting the rule of law.
Parliamentarians also highlighted the importance of regular exchanges
of experiences between judicial bodies in Southeast European countries and
relevant parliamentary committees.
