VIENNA, Oct 12 (Hina) - Croatia has met nearly all of its commitments from the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime by adopting new legislation, a Croatian official said in Vienna on Thursday at a conference of the Convention's signatories.

The third such conference addressed the extent to which signatory countries had met the commitments from the Convention.

The head of the Croatian delegation, Zeljko Horvatic, said Croatia had amended the penal code and laws on criminal procedure, money laundering and the Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime, thus meeting nearly all commitments from the Convention and its protocols against trafficking in persons, illegal migrations, and illegal arms manufacturing and sale.

Horvatic supported a statement moved by European Union president Finland which underlined that the main problem at present was the application of amended provisions in practice and a more effective location, prosecution and punishment of perpetrators of all forms of organised crime.

Croatia actively participated in negotiations on and the drafting of the Convention and was among the first states to have signed it in 2000.

The Vienna conference began on October 9 and ends on the 18th.
