SARAJEVO, Sept 15 (Hina) - The German media concern Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ), that is already present in Croatia and the media markets of some other southeast European countries, seems to be planning its arrival on Bosnia-Herzegovina's media market and taking over Oslobodjenje daily, the oldest newspaper in the country.

Salko Hasanefendic, the chairman of the Oslobodjenje supervisory board, was quoted as saying on Friday that WAZ managers had already probed the situation in the Bosnian daily.

"Unfortunately they have not yet officially expressed their position on a price for the acquisition of Oslobodjenje. Anyway, they want to see Oslobodjenje as part of the WAZ group," Hasanefendic said.

Negotiations between the current management of the daily and the German media concern were held before the Sarajevo brewery "Sarajevska Pivara" took over 56 percent of Oslobodjenje's stock capital.

On 6 September the brewery bought the shares at the price of 2.8 million convertible marks from the Slovene investment fund 'Kmecka Druzba'.

According to local media in Bosnia, Sarajevska Pivara has thus prevented the Avaz company, which publishes Dnevni Avaz, the daily with the highest circulation in Bosnia, from entering Oslobodjenje.

Owners of the brewery and Avaz have been in conflict for years due to business interests.

According to figures mentioned in the public, the brewery paid 125 convertible marks for one Oslobodjenje share, whose nominal value is about 60 convertible marks.

WAZ is reportedly willing to pay 200 convertible marks for one Oslobodjenje share.
