Lehne, who arrived in Pristina on Tuesday, met Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu, the leader of the Alliance for Kosovo's Future, Ramush Haradinaj, and Hashim Thaqi, head of the leading opposition party, the Democratic Party of Kosovo.
After meeting the Kosovo officials, Lehne said that the visit by the UN chief negotiator for Kosovo's status, Martti Ahtisaari, who was scheduled to arrive in Pristina for a three-day visit in the afternoon, was very important because Ahtisaari was bringing very clear messages for Kosovo's negotiating team.
Lehne urged Kosovo leaders to cooperate closely with Ahtisaari and make more progress in meeting international standards with the aim of building a functioning multiethnic society.
