One of the most important tasks in coming months is my supporting the UN envoy for negotiations on Kosovo's status, Martti Ahtisaari, to find a solution for the status of this UN-govern province by the end of this year, Ruecker said.
I expect to be the last UN civil administrator in Kosovo, Ruecker said after meeting Kosovo's president, prime minister and parliament speaker, Fatmir Sejdiu, Agim Ceku and Kole Berisha respectively.
Kosovo leaders welcomed Ruecker's appointment and expressed readiness to continue cooperation.
Rucker will officially assume his post on 1 September and replace Danish diplomat Soren Jessen Petersen.
