SALZBURG, July 31 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on Monday arrived in Salzburg, where tomorrow he is due to attend a meeting of heads of government of Southeast European countries dedicated to the region's stability in the 21st century.

Sanader said the meeting "will be an opportunity to exchange opinions on the strengthening of cooperation because we are talking about our neighbourhood and the European future of those states". He added the meeting would also provide an opportunity for bilateral talks with every prime minister and Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel.

Bosnian PM Adnan Terzic said the annual summer meeting would analyse what happened in the region over the past year and the level of European integration of each country.

"Croatia is undoubtedly the regional leader in European integration and I think that by exchanging opinions the prime ministers can contribute a lot to the development of their countries," said Terzic.

Schuessel, the host, said he expected the meeting to be useful.

There is a chance of Croatia participating in the 2009 elections for the European Parliament, he said, adding that the first policy chapter in the entry negotiations was successfully closed during Austria's presidency of the EU in the first half of the year.

A difference has been made between Turkey and Croatia because each state has its own pace and rhythm of drawing closer to the European Union, which strategically is not unimportant, said Schuessel, adding that Croatia was well prepared for accession, that entry negotiations were proceeding well and that it was an example to the other states in the region.

Schuessel said Croatia had earned that, showing the way with its action plan of cooperation with the Hague war crimes tribunal, which he hoped Serbia would follow.

He underlined that Europe's enlargement would be complete once all Southeast European states joined the EU.

Apart from Schuessel, the Salzburg meeting will be hosted by Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik and the special coordinator of the Stability Pact for Southeast Europe, Erhard Busek.
