The ministers adopted a joint declaration envisaging closer cooperation and exchange of information among the member-countries in the judiciary and home affairs with emphasis on the fight against organised crime and corruption, adjustment to the Schengen standards and the migration and asylum policy, as well as on border management and dialogue among different cultures and religions in the EU and Southeast Europe.
The Salzburg Forum, an informal coordination body promoting regional cooperation in the EU and instrument of fighting all types of organised crime, was established in 2001. It holds three ministerial meetings annually, one of which is held in Austria.
Croatian Minister Kirin spoke at the conference about measures taken to combat organised crime in the country and in cooperation with other countries. He added that Croatia had had a lot of success in fighting crime and that it had been commended as setting an example in the region.
At the conference Slovenia took over the six-month chairmanship of the forum from Slovakia.
