The letter of intent and the institute's design plan were handed to the ambassador at a reception the diplomat held on the occasion of the forthcoming Chinese New Year (or Spring Festival).
According to the report, a university delegation visited Shanghai and the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade last June, when the two sides agreed on founding the Confucius Institute in Zagreb.
An agreement on cooperation in this matter between the University of Zagreb and Tongji University was signed in November 2010.
The plan for building the institute is likely to be approved this March.
The institute is expected to begin operating in the school year 2011/2012.
