"The launch of electronic prescriptions and later of electronic referral slips will save us HRK 15 million annually," Health Minister Darko Milinovic told Hina on Monday.
The move is also expected to relieve health care professionals of the burden of paperwork.
According to Milinovic, some 50 million prescriptions are annually issued in Croatia, which requires 77 tonnes of paper.
HRK 55 million has been invested in the computerisation of the Croatian health care system. This investment will be paid off in two or two and a half years given that HRK 15 million has been spent annually on paper so far.
