GLINA, June 24 (Hina) - Representatives of the Croatian President, the Government, the Parliament, war veterans associations and special police units on Saturday gathered in Glina, 60 kilometres south of Zagreb, to mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of special police units, the 15th anniversary of the armed resistance to the Serb aggressor in the Glina area, and the 16th anniversary of the establishment of the "Lucko" Anti-Terrorist Unit.

Early in the morning of 26 June 1991, just hours after the Croatian parliament passed a decision on Croatia's independence and sovereignty, Serb paramilitaries, led by war criminal Dragan Vasiljkovic aka Captain Dragan, attacked the local police station.

A member of Croatian police reserve units was killed in the attack, six police officers were seriously or lightly wounded and a group of 16 police officers and civilians were captured and taken to a prison in Knin.

The Serb paramilitaries kept the police station besieged for some 20 minutes, after which it was recaptured by several hundred Croatian policemen, members of the "Lucko" special unit, local police and the Croatian National Guard.
