Unknown persons opened fire from infantry weapons on members of the Croatian contingent in Afghanistan this morning but no one was wounded on the Croatian side, the Croatian Defence Ministry said in a statement earlier today.
The Croatian troops were attacked at 0119 hours local time while performing tasks within Operation Turtle in Taywar district, a border area between Ghor and Farah provinces.
Two persons opened fire on a Croatian observation post and members of the Croatian contingent fired back, after which the attackers withdrew on motorbikes.
No one on the Croatian side was injured but their all-terrain vehicle was damaged, the statement said, adding the Croatian mission to Afghanistan continued to carry out their regular tasks in keeping with security estimates.
The Afghan National Police searched the terrain and established the position from which the fire was opened, securing the area.
Croatia's Mobile Liaison Observation Team is comprised of two commissioned and five noncommissioned army officers and is active within the Lithuanian Provincial Reconstruction Team.
