Luksic was an eminent member of the Croatian emigrant community in Chile and one of the first foreign investors in Croatia. His family founded a trust from which funds will be used for the education of persons, who work or will work in the Croatian public sector, studying at Harvard's John F. Kennedy school of political management.
Mesic said the scholarship programme fit in Croatia's priorities to invest in education and science.
The school's dean, Joseph McCarthy, invited Mesic to visit Harvard again and give a lecture, the president's office said in a press release.
