NOVO MESTO, May 12 (Hina) - Officials of the Slovene and Croatian
police forces on Friday held their regular annual meeting ahead of the coming
tourist season to discuss cooperation during this summer and coordination
between the two police forces in order to curb cross-border crime.
The meeting which was held in the Slovene town of Novo Mesto also focused on
police cooperation when Slovenia becomes part of the Schengen border control
and visa regime system next year.
The Slovene police chief, Joze Romsek, said after the session that
patrols of joint police teams along the border had slashed illegal migrations
by 40 percent.
The Croatian police chief, Marijan Benko, pointed out good cooperation
between police in regulating traffic during the peak of the summer season,
usually marked by traffic congestion.
