The government said that after an expected positive outcome of the vote Montenegro would seek membership in the UN and its agencies.
"Determined to honour the assumed international commitments, the Government of Montenegro will continue to implement and respect all UN documents signed by the state union of Serbia and Montenegro: the UN Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, conventions, treaties and other UN documents," the declaration said.
Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic said on the occasion that all necessary conditions existed for Montenegro to be admitted to the UN as an independent state at a session of the UN General Assembly scheduled for September.
