ZAGREB, April 11 (Hina) - The leaders of four trade union
federations which collected the signatures of 330,000 citizens against the
proposed health reform said at a panel discussion in Zagreb on Tuesday that
they had managed to postpone the first parliamentary reading of a set of health
bills and a national strategy for the development of the health sector. The union leaders again called for quality health care that would be
generally available and for a safe old age pension.
The leader of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Croatia,
Ivan Tomac, said that the postponement of the first parliamentary reading of
the proposed bills would make it possible to influence the health reform
model.
Reform is not an issue of an individual or of interest groups, but of
all Croatian citizens, and the latest events show that there is a growing
awareness that such issues need a broader social consensus, Tomac said.
Trade unions will organise panel discussions throughout Croatia to
encourage citizens to join in the debate about the health reform.
