SUWON/BOONDANG, April 7 (Hina) - During his official visit to South Korea, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Friday visited two leading Korean telecommunications and electronics companies, Samsung and SK Telecom, and invited them to invest in the Croatian economy.

Mesic visited the headquarters of Samsung in Sowun near Seoul and representatives of SK Telecom in Boondang. The two companies' officials expressed interest in Croatia's geographical position and business opportunities in the country, including production.

Samsung, a strong multinational company founded in 1969 and employing 128,000 people, already exists in Croatia. The company made 74.5 million US dollars in 2005 and expects a growth 17 percent in 2006.

The director of Samsung's digital media, Che Dzi Song, said the company would consider the possibility to transfor the production of plasma television to Croatia.

Mesic told Korean business people Croatia, the population of which is 4.5 million, was a small market but on a good geographic location so that it could cover a larger territory.

Mesic will end his visit to South Korea today with talks with officials of the Daewoo shipyard and Croats living in that country.
