A statement issued by the Institute said the Debian Cluster Components programme package was developed by young collaborators of the Department for Information Science and Computing, Nikola Pavkovic and Valentin Vidic.
The Institute recalls that the last decade saw rapid development of digital telecommunications and electronic data storage and processing, which required stronger and stronger computers.
The problem was solved by constructing very expensive specialised supercomputers, today an outdated approach. Nowadays, more and more computer experts make the best possible use of ordinary computers by linking their software into the so-called computer clusters.
The essence of this approach to increasing computer capacity are special programme packages which enable the linking of a number of individual computer processors into a single cluster supercomputer.
