SARAJEVO, March 27 (Hina) - The Archbishop of Sarajevo, Vinko Puljic, has called for "greater unity and a constructive approach" among Bosnian Croat politicians involved in talks on changes to the Bosnian constitution, Bosnian Catholic press agency KTA reported on Monday.

Cardinal Puljic met the Croat member of the Bosnian Presidency, Ivo Miro Jovic, on Monday to discuss the current political situation in the country.

They supported a statement issued from a meeting of bishops in Mostar on 22 March, who said that "any division and manipulation" would be detrimental to the Croat people in Bosnia-Herzegovina, KTA said.

The statement from the Mostar meeting said that a political agreement on constitutional amendments, reached by seven Bosnian political parties, including the strongest Croat party, the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia-Herzegovina (HDZ B-H), was flawed and harmful to the Croats' interests. Opponents of the policies of the HDZ B-H later used the bishops' position as a key argument in their attacks on the proposed constitutional amendments.

According to KTA, Puljic and Jovic highlighted the need for a constant exchange of information with the aim of ensuring equal rights for all three constituent ethnic groups in Bosnia-Herzegovina -- the Bosniaks (Muslims), the Serbs and the Croats.
