In an interview with Dnevni Avaz of Monday, Tihic said the Party of Democratic Action deputies would vote for the amendments and voiced hope that all others would realise that the amendments were an important step forward.
He reiterated that none of the three peoples, including the Croats, would lose anything but only gain with the constitutional amendments.
"True, we haven't corrected all the errors from the Dayton (peace) agreement, but there is the second stage of the negotiations to do that," Tihic said, adding that he would inform Pope Benedict XVI of the constitutional changes at a forthcoming meeting.
The president of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ BH), Dragan Covic, also voiced confidence that the amendments would win parliamentary support despite a campaign against them.
"What we have signed will certainly pass in parliament because it is in the interest of Bosnia and Herzegovina and all of its peoples. Without these changes there is no European or other integration," Covic told Dnevni Avaz, adding that the next stage of constitutional changes would focus on the internal restructuring of the country, namely a discussion on the two entities.
The Ljubljana-based International Institute for Near East and Balkan Studies today issued the results of a survey on the Bosnian public's feelings about the constitutional changes.
Conducted last week, the survey by telephone among 1,544 people revealed that almost 60 per cent are against the draft changes, a little under 30 per cent are in favour while about 10 per cent do not have a position on the matter.
Sixty-three per cent were in favour of Bosnia's accession to the European Union and 52 per cent to NATO.
