ZAGREB, March 24 (Hina) - One of the priorities on the path of
Croatia's joining the EU is to strengthen the efficiency of the country's
Customs Administration concerning special taxes and to adjust Croatia's customs
system to EU standards. This is also the objective of the CARDS 2003 project
called "Assisting the Customs Administration in the Excise Tax Field", the
implementation of which stated on Friday. The 18 month-long project
is worth EUR800,000, assistant head of the Croatian Customs Administration
Vesna Kadic said.
The implementation of the project is expected to result in the
establishment of the so called Excise Movement Control System, namely an IT
system which will help the Croatian custom system to entirely connect with that
of the EU the day the country joins the bloc.
