SARAJEVO, March 18 (Hina) - The presidents of seven political parties in Bosnia-Herzegovina met in Sarajevo on Saturday to end negotiations on changes to the country's Constitution, launched in autumn 2005.

The leaders of the seven Bosnian political parties met for talks at the invitation of US Ambassador Douglas McElhaney, who attended previous rounds of negotiations as a moderator.

Haris Silajdzic's Party for Bosnia-Herzegovina was not invited this time because the party has launched a harsh campaign against the proposed amendments saying they were insufficient.

The meeting held in the residence of the US ambassador to Bosnia was attended by the president of of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Dragan Covic, and the president of the Croatian People's Union, Milenko Brskic. The two parties had been refusing to sign the amendments, requesting guarantees that Croats be able to to elect a Croat member of the Bosnian collective Presidency. Brkic reiterated on Saturday he would sign no document that would legalise the so-called entity voting in the state parliament.

Covic, however, said before the meeting he was optimistic, adding that he was confident agreement could be reached, on condition that a minimum on which the Croat party insisted would be accepted - namely the indirect election of members of the Presidency by voting in the Bosnian Parliament's House of Peoples.
