Seks arrived on Monday at the helm of a Croatian Parliament delegation for a three-day official visit at the invitation of the Speaker of the Bundestag. It was the first meeting of heads of the two parliaments ever.
Speaking to reporters after the talks, Seks said that the main purpose of his visit was to further deepen the excellent relations between the Bundestag and the Sabor, and that conditions had been created to additionally intensify cooperation between the two parliaments through various committees and friendship groups.
Seks informed his host about the Sabor's role in Croatia and its work, especially regarding the adjustment of Croatian legislation to that of the EU.
Lammert expressed great satisfaction with the first meeting with a Croatian Parliament president.
We are very pleased that President Seks has accepted our invitation and come to Berlin for three days of intense talks with representatives of different political groups in the Bundestag and German government officials, Lammert said.
He said that delegations of the Bundestag's Committee for European Affairs and the parliamentary groups of the CSU and SPD parties were planning to visit Croatia already this year as part of efforts to step up cooperation between the two countries. He added that a joint German-Croatian parliamentary cooperation group, representing all the groups in the Bundestag, had also been established for that purpose.
