RIJEKA, March 9 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on Thursday dismissed claims by Social Democrats leader Ivica Racan who criticised the Government's anti-corruption programme.

Sanader said Racan's government had also adopted such a strategy, but failed to implement it.

"We will carry out the anti-corruption strategy," Sanader said, adding that his government would fight organised crime and corruption and reform the judiciary.

The media cited Racan as says yesterday that "Sanader's corrupted government cannot fight corruption" and that "Sanader and his politics are the main instigators of all forms of corruption in Croatia".

"Racan talks with envy and a certain anger because my government and I are more engaged in the solving of problems in Croatian society than he was," said Sanader, reiterating that voters had replaced Racan's government.

"One of the reasons (for their replacement) was that they were incompetent and we can also say lazy. Should we compare them and us, they are incompetent lazy people and this primarily refers to Racan and the results of this Government speak for everything else," Sanader said.

He said it was difficult for Racan to see this Government achieving results and success in all areas, but added that the Social Democrats leader must deal with it.
