BELGRADE, March 7 (Hina) - Serbia and Montenegro Foreign Minister
Vuk Draskovic said on Tuesday it was necessary to thoroughly investigate the
suicide of ex-Croatian Serb rebel leader Milan Babic in the Hague war crimes
tribunal's detention unit and if the UN court was responsible that something
like it could have happened. Speaking on Belgrade's Radio B92,
Draskovic said Babic's suicide would not significantly affect Serbian citizens'
trust in the Hague tribunal given that it was already low.
Draskovic also said he was "truly sorry for Babic because he was a man
who was capable of admitting a mistake".
"I believe that his confession and remorse was genuine... He is a big
victim, he was killed by Slobodan Milosevic and nearly everyone at the Hague
tribunal is a victim of Milosevic and the national vermin who are now spreading
in Serbia an atmosphere of going back to evil," said Draskovic.
Babic committed suicide on Sunday.
