Citizens will answer if they want Montenegro to become independent. The decision will be valid if it is supported by 55 per cent of the electorate.
Montenegrin members of parliament called on all political subjects to conduct a fair and democratic campaign, and to respect the referendum law and enable citizens to freely express their will regarding Montenegro's status.
Parliament Speaker Ranko Krivokapic underlined the importance of the fact the decisions on the referendum had been adopted by two fiercely opposing blocs "the sovereignist and the unionist," that had different views of the referendum process.
Those who advocate a sovereign and independent Montenegro and those who advocate preserving the union with Serbia agreed after two months of negotiations in which the European Union was also involved.
