ZAGREB, Feb 25 (Hina) - Croatia's small business sector has
experienced growth over the past few years, with new businesses being opened
and new jobs being created, the Minister of the Economy, Labour and
Entrepreneurship, Branko Vukelic, said in Zagreb last week while opening an
international conference on the adjustment of the Croatian craft and small
business sector to European Union standards. Noting that 655 new
businesses had been opened in the first month and a half of this year alone,
Vukelic said that small and medium-sized businesses were the basis of economic
growth and a generator of job creation.
He said that Croatian small business owners should use the time before
Croatia joins the European Union to prepare themselves as best they could for
challenges awaiting them on the global market.
The minister highlighted the role of education and training and the
importance of investment in innovations and new technologies to raise the level
of competitiveness of small enterprises.
The conference was organised by the Croatian Chamber of Crafts.
