Bas-Backer will be in charge of issues relating to the reform of the country's defence and intelligence sectors, the strengthening of state institutions, reform of the public administration and the national broadcasting network, development of civil society, and problems relating to young people.
The Dutch diplomat, who succeeds German diplomat Martin Nay, headed the Dutch office in Pristina and held various posts related to peace stabilisation and overseeing of the implementation of the Dayton peace agreement.
