Barroso took a walk through the city centre in the company of Croatian PM Ivo Sanader, Deputy PM Jadranka Kosor, EC Enlargment Commissioner Olli Rehn and the head of the EC Delegation in Croatia, Vincent Degert.
The EC officials stopped in a tie shop, where Barroso and Rehn each bought this original Croatian product.
In the central city market Dolac they tasted cottage cheese and cream, a traditional dish in the northwestern part of the country which Euroskeptics claim will disappear from menus once Croatia joins the EU.
Zagreb and Brussels claim that this will not be the case if all EU sanitary standards are met.
Earlier in the day the EC president, who ends his first official visit to Zagreb today, met President Stjepan Mesic and Sabor Speaker Vladimir Seks and addressed the parliament.
