One dead swan was found at Zagreb's Lake Jarun, one near Karlovac, one on the bank of the Kupa river in the vicinity of Moscenica near Sisak, while the remaining five were found in the Korana river downstream from Karlovac, Ministry spokesman Mladen Pavic told Hina.
Testing usually takes five days, but in the case of avian influenza, results usually come in earlier, Pavic said, adding that the public would be promptly informed about the results.
Pavic said that it was commonplace for birds to die in large numbers at this time of the year, and that the swans had probably died because of winter conditions, low temperatures and lack of food.
