Tomislav Ivic, head of the HDZ in Osijek-Baranja County, told the press the opposition parties fully supported the government's decision to dissolve the assemblies in Dubrovnik and Pozega counties and the town of Velika Gorica.
Ivic urged the government to dissolve the Osijek-Baranja County Assembly too, saying that unlawful acts involving councillors' mandates had been committed in the process of constitution of the county assembly.
He added that the withdrawal and submission of resignations at the founding session of the county assembly had affected the founding of the Osijek City Council and requested that the City Council be dissolved as well.
Commenting on the opposition's request, the mayor of Osijek and leader of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP), Anto Djapic, said that the dissolution of the county assembly and the city council would be unlawful because the local authorities had been established in line with the law.
"We have a stable majority and the ruling coalition of the Independent List of Branimir Glavas and the HSP is functioning excellently," Djapic said.
