During Question Time in the Sabor, Minister Skare Ozbolt said that the justice ministry was systematically analysing all pertinent documents and was accelerating its preparations for the trials before the ICTY in which it would be engaged via the institute of the amici curiae, or friends of the court.
She added that she could not reveal all the details about what the council of amici curiae was doing to contest the unacceptable segments of the indictments, notably the allegations about criminal enterprises and ethnic cleansing.
The ministry is also working on training of Croatian judges and prosecutors for carrying out war crimes trials.
According to the minister, Croatia has already met all technical and material preconditions for taking over cases from the Hague-based UN tribunal.
The referral of the the case of generals Mirko Norac and Rahim Ademi to Croatia is proof that the national judiciary is prepared in the best manner to carry out trials in a fair and objective way, she said
