Beckstein, who is on a two-day visit to Croatia, said that Croatia played an important role in regional stability, particularly considering the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, and Kosovo.
The Bavarian minister visited the Zagreb-based forensics centre "Ivan Vucetic", stating during the visit that Croatia had achieved a high level of security.
A session of the project "Euro South-East", which focuses on money forging, will be held in Croatia in October to help the country join the project, which now covers Bavaria, Austria, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic, Beckstein said.
Benko said that Germany and Bavaria had been providing Croatia with financial and technical support since the country gained independence.
Beckstein yesterday met Minister of the Interior Ivica Kirin, with whom he discussed cooperation between the two ministries, exchange of experience and information in the fight against organised crime, drug smuggling, illegal migrations and forging of documents.
