"Many topics will be discussed: transport, cross-border cooperation, the protection of the environment and minorities. One of the most interesting topics for the Croatian public will be our joint candidacy for the 2012 European Football Championship," Minister Grabar-Kitarovic said after the talks.
Somogy voiced satisfaction with the fact that this was his third visit to Croatia during his term as well as with the fact that this time he met Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader.
The two countries' delegations tackled a number of issues, the Hungarian minister said. Apart from minorities "which are not a problem, but an important connection between our countries", the delegations also talked about economic cooperation.
There is one important strategic field - cooperation in the energy sector, Somogy said. "Everybody is familiar with the connection between MOL and INA and I believe this is the foundation for further development of cooperation in this important and delicate field, as the energy sector is today," he said.
He stressed that Hungary had been advocating Croatia's joining Euro-Atlantic associations, adding that his country would continue to assist Croatia on that path.
The situation is quite different in football, Somogy said, adding that Hungary could learn a lot about football from Croatia.
