Galic's decision was based on the conclusions of the HRT Programmes Council, which found at a session on 15 December 2005 that the controversial show, broadcast on 12 December, violated the public broadcaster's programming policies and obligations laid down by the law.
In his recommendations to the Council, which were communicated to the media, Galic said Latinica had a long tradition as a programme that had drawn attention to a lot of topics important to Croatian society, winning numerous awards for promoting democratic values in the country.
Galic, however, highlighted the importance of professional and unbiassed reporting, urging the Latinica crew to take into account well-founded criticism of their show and cover their topics with greater responsibility in the future.
He noted that a high level of freedom of journalistic and editorial work that had been achieved by HRT was best defended by a high level of professionalism.
