HVAR, Jan 7 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, who is
spending his holiday on the island of Hvar, on Saturday planted an olive tree
in a local olive grove, symbolically supporting the replanting of olive groves
on the island that were destroyed in a big fire two years ago. Last
year local olive growers saw the highest yields so far, with 10,000 wagons of
olives and 1,200 wagons of olive oil.
President Mesic said that this year new olive trees would be planted to
support Croatian olive growers ahead of integration with the European
Union.
