An award-giving ceremony will be held in Brussels in the evening at which 25 tourist destinations, including the Croatian coastal town of Nin, will be given the European Destinations of Excellence (EDEN) awards.
Nin is the national winner in Croatia this year in the Aquatic Tourism contest.
Other nominees in Croatia were the municipality of Rasa near the Rasa River, the city Karlovac with its four rivers, Otocac with the Gacka River valley, Fuzine with its lakes, Hrvatska Kostajnica on the Una river, the valley of the Cetina river, the island of Krapanj, the town of Ilok on the Danube river, and the municipality of Kolan on the island of Pag.
Addressing a press conference in Brussels, the vice-president of the European Commission responsible for industry and entrepreneurship, Antonio Tajani, spoke about the importance of the development of cultural destinations.
The Commission points out the European cycling route "Iron Curtain Trail", and invites people to retrace this important part of Europe's history.
