On 15 September, union leader Ivan Tomac sent a letter to Suker, who is also the INA Supervisory Board chairman, requesting him to express his opinion on the reduction of INA's labour force by 1,500 people by the end of this year.
Hungary's MOL is the biggest share-holder with a 47.15 percent stake in INA.
Holding 44 percent of INA's shares, the Croatian government is the second biggest share-holder, which is why the EKN trade union asks Minister Suker about the government's position on the INA management's plans for downsizing INA's labour force and its redundancy programme for those 1,500 workers.
This trade union fears that this reduction is just the beginning of larger-scale cuts in INA.
On the other hand, the leader of the trade union of workers in INA, Maja Rilovic, last Thursday applauded the redundancy programme and proposed severance packages.
According to the INA management, the programme covers 1,500 employees, or about nine per cent of the total of 16,300 employees in the INA Group.
