In its motion, the HNS said the government should have known about the irregularities as the HFP Act bound it to supervise the Fund's work. By failing to do so, the government facilitated corruption and the loss of millions.
The motion underlined that Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polancec was the chair of the HFP Steering Board and that three more ministers sat on the board.
It said that the government had appointed Grga Ivezic HFP president and that he could make decisions on the sale of shares and equity portions of up to 10 million kuna without the Steering Board's consent. The motion said this indicated that Ivezic, who is also the state secretary heading the Central Office for State Property Management, consented to every decision made by the HFP board of directors.
The motion voiced surprise at Ivezic's statement to the media that the HFP vice presidents arrested for corruption had been working behind his and the back of the Steering Board.
Milanka Opacic said the SDP had decided to support the HNS initiative.
HSS leader Zeljko Pecek said his party would support the initiative but would be happier if the opposition requested that parliament debate the situation in the HFP and privatisation in general and draw conclusions. He was afraid that Speaker Vladimir Seks might postpone the debate until September.
The Social Liberals (HSLS) and the Party of Rights (HSP) said they would not support the HNS initiative, feeling it was pointless to initiate the dismissal of the government when elections were due in November.
The HNS may send its motion to parliament for discussion after collecting a minimum 31 deputy signatures.
The government has eight days to take a position on the request and the parliament must discuss it within 30 days.
