Political scientists, experts on public opinion surveys, representatives of NGOs and reporters discussed different aspects of reporting in an election year, the role of the media, and how the media should behave in an election year.
The event was organised by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, the Croatian Radio and Press Association, and the Media Service.
Surveys show that as much as 40 percent of Croatians do not want to go to the polls, which is why the media should play a greater role in encouraging them to vote, the conference heard.
Political scientist Andjelko Milardovic criticised the "Americanisation" of Croatian politicians, who he said had started to treat politics as "a spectacle, a concert or a soccer match."
