Hubner said the European Commission was interested in Croatia's becoming a European Union member as soon as possible. She added that a country's preparedness to join was key and that the time before accession should be used to the best advantage.
Mesic said Croatia was continuing with the required reforms and the adoption of European rules and standards so as to be as prepared as possible.
Hubner said she was pleased that the Croatian parliament was involved in the integration process and underlined the need to raise public support for accession.
She went on to say that setting up a good public administration system was key for exploiting EU funds. She expressed satisfaction that Croatian regions had offices in Brussels, highlighting the importance of communication with other European regions and adding that participation in Open Days in Brussels in October would provide another important opportunity.
European regional policy is important so as to reduce the differences between Europe's regions and ensure equal development for all, Hubner said.
